I am teaching in some way, shape or form every week. This is on my own courses, for other institutions including the NHS and to individual clinicians. As an NHS Consultant I have undergone training in how to teach. Developing these skills is almost as important as developing clinical experience when imparting knowledge to others. I spend most of my week in private practice and understand the challenges that busy clinicians face. I am also the lead for the Surrey ITI Study Club. I have experience of examining for the Royal College of Surgeons Speciality Examinations and medico-legal work; I incorporate relevant points to my wider teaching.

I focus on interactive coaching and mentoring to maximise learning. Wherever possible, the teaching is specifically adapted to those individuals attending that sitting.

I aim to cover evidence-based and pragmatic tips that can be safely implemented quickly in the practice environment. I enjoy practical teaching and helping people to develop their clinical skills. My other focus is on the development of decision-making skills and understanding rationale in order to develop a detailed and predictable treatment strategy addressing the specific challenges relevant to each case.

The feedback I have received on teaching is that I am friendly and supportive which allows delegates to learn by engaging and being challenged in a productive way.
